Of course we all know that fireworks and music go well together.
Back in 2002 a band named Audioslave came out with a music video that I’ve always thought to be totaly awesome! Not only does the group mash 2 of my favorite 90s bands togeather (Soundgarden & Rage Against the Machine) but it also features the most liberal dose of fireworks ever seen in a music video!
The photo/video geek in me also has to comment on the fact that once the song starts, the lighting for the video is provided entirely by the fireworks. The band is seen rocking out while pyrotechnic strobes flicker about; silhouetted by huge mines, comets and shells. Of course the waterfall in the break is especially awesome.
It’s also interesting how the band had to be recorded atop a massive tower of scaffolding, roughly the same height as the fireworks, so the camera could be close to the band while keeping the fireworks in the background.
While many music videos involve pyrotechnics, it’s usually the more tame indoor/proximate variety. It’s cool to see a video that just lets loose with full-on outdoor fireworks and makes it a feature element of the performance.
The Wikipedia page on this song has some interesting anecdotes on the production of the video. Enjoy!
